Sprite 3on3 summer overview part 2
Lisatud: 28.08 2010
Fourth tournament of the season was held in Pärnu at the parking lot of Kaubamajakas. The main difference in team lineups was the absence of Marko, who had already left for 6 months abroad due to military duties. So, in Elites team at Pärnu was Anthony, Erik, Kristjan and little help from Imre. Amateurs team was same old Mirko, Siim, Tormi and Imre.
This was the most successful tournament for Elites team this summer. In group stage only loss came against Converese, but after a tough loss to Nike in semifinals we met Converse once again in the game for third place. This time our team got more power in their legs and made it on the podium for the first time this summer.

Amateurs got a perfect start at Pärnu by winning all 3 games in group. But as it has often happened, they faced a better team in the quarters, this time it was Olympic-online.ee.
Anthony also took part of the Slam Dunk Contest, but as it came out, it wasn’t his day at all. Erik and Anthony played in MIX, Erik with his team came 4th and Anthony’s team didn’t make it through the group.
Fifth tournament was held for the first time in Otepää, the winter capital of Estonia. Since Otepää is located in the other side of the country and we all had to save money for the upcoming trip to CPH, we decided not to take part of this tournament.
Next one, sixth of the summer, was held in Tartu, again. This time in the center of the city. This tournament was the Final for Elites, since the Baltic Open, held on next Saturday, was played for grand prize 20 000 EEK. Once again, due to work and practices with other teams, Ei, Emotsioon didn’t take part of Tartu tournament.
But that doesn’t mean Ei, Emotsioon players can’t be represented. Team Olympic-online.ee, which was leading the Amateurs overall standings at the moment, called Anthony for help, since they were short of one player. Team Olympic made it to the playoffs with 3 straight wins from group stage, until team Vahet Pole stepped against them in the quarters. This is where the road of Olympic-online.ee ended this time.
Anthony also took part of the Slam Dunk Competition and this time everything clicked. He had 4 successful attempts, both ones in the finals got max points and Anthony was rewarded with 2000.- Nike Basketball gift card.

Baltic Open, The Final for Amateurs and for Elites winner a 20 000.- grand prize, was held second year in a row at the Liberty square, Tallinn.
Elites and Amateurs, both teams were there and ready to fight for the win. Elites started great, won Shit Happen easily and Lithuanian former national team Agents also, but then, after a bit of rain, had to suffer a devastationg loss from Latvian team Jurmala Feniks, who nailed 5 threes in that game. That meant 2 W – 1 L for three teams and the one to drop out – Ei, Emotsioon by one point against Latvian team.

Amateurs were placed into a 5-team group, where they finished with record 2-2 and didn’t make it to the playoffs.
So, this is where the summer of Sprite 3on3 Streetball ends.
On behalf of Elites team, I, Anthony, could proudly say that our first summer in Elites was a success. We didn’t set any big goals, but twice on 4th place and once on 3rd place out of 5 tournaments we took part of, I could say it was a good summer.
Since the financial situation was tight due to the trip to Denmark and expectations weren’t also set high, Amateurs team had a „OK“ summer, Siim says.
Now, that both teams have played 3on3 tournaments for couple of years, Amateurs with same roster for two summers and Elites with 5-6 main players, next summer might turn out the most successful one. Of course, it’s a long way until 2011 summer starts, but until there’s no 5on5 tournament in Estonia, 3on3 tournaments are the only ones where you can compete against other teams.
But now, we’re in Denmark. Finally the time for a 5on5 tournament, the one we have been waiting for a long time.
But more about that in next news.
